Founded in August 1990 with the simultaneous opening of Musim Gallery in Cheongju and UM Gallery in Seoul, UM Gallery operates across two distinctive exhibition spaces bridging the capital and regional art scenes. The gallery is dedicated to revitalizing interregional artistic exchanges and broadening the horizon of the Korean art market, while continuously expanding its global presence through prominent international art fairs.
Beginning with seminal Dansaekhwa exhibitions in the 1990s, UM Gallery has organized historically resonant exhibitions focusing on vanguard figures in Korean art history, notably spotlighting first-generation conceptual artists such as Kim Kulim and Lee Kun-Yong. In parallel with historicizing masters, the gallery actively discovers and nurtures promising emerging artists, establishing itself as an authoritative contemporary art gallery that dynamically engages with the vanguard currents of contemporary art.
