The Gwangju Association of Artists with Disabilities was originally established as a social organization in 1992 and was officially registered as an incorporated association and a non-profit private organization in 2016. For over 34 years, the association has been dedicated to supporting artists with disabilities who share a passion for the visual arts.

The association expands opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in cultural and artistic activities, promoting greater social inclusion through the arts. It also supports aspiring local artists with disabilities by fostering career development, encouraging creative expression, and conducting research and developing diverse cultural content that contributes to both the local community and the broader cultural and arts sector.

The association operates a wide range of programs, including employment support for artists with disabilities, artwork leasing services, exhibitions, and systematic art education ranging from introductory courses to professional-level training.

Today, more than 100 members with disabilities are actively engaged in artistic practice across a wide variety of disciplines, including traditional Korean painting, Western painting, woodworking, mother-of-pearl lacquerware, precious metal crafts, and copperplate metalwork.
